Working Dogs

Great Pyranees
King Kong - Great Pyranees are a giant nomadic breed that has traveled along with the flocks for decades. Protective of their sheep against predators, they live constantly among the herd. Pyranees guard dogs can be gentle with the herders and other camp dogs, but aggressive to strangers and unknown animals. This particular dog looked so peaceful yet alert, I wanted to capture the spirit of this working dog on film. Enjoy!
Working Dogs Border Collie
Panda - Border Collies are one of the greatest assets that a sheepherder can have. One dog alone is a great help at going around the sheep to round them up for the night or moving the sheep down the trail. These dogs will work all day long with no complaints, just wanting a pet and dinner for their hard efforts. Most all sheep camps have three sheep herd dogs. This mother Border Collie had been out working, and upon returning to camp her puppy Panda wanted to welcome her home. There will never be any substitute for the working dog. Enjoy!
Border Collie
This male Border Collie was watching his herd of sheep from the top of the hill. Laying in snow and sagebrush, he looked as regal as any working dog I have ever seen. Enjoy!
Working Dogs Red Heeler
Cujo - Cattle dogs known as Heelers are used mostly to work cattle, but this particular dog has been trained on both sheep and cattle. In this print Cujo had worked all day moving mother cows home from summer pasture when a fall blizzard put in an appearance. Wet and tired this dog continued through the snow, staying along his wet cowboys and girls until the job was done. Persistent is one word that can wholly explain a Red Heeler working dog. Enjoy!
Border Collie
Kenny is our 2-year old Border collie that is absolutely tireless! He never stops! Even though there was very little room for him on the truck bed, with all the hay and fencing equipment he still loaded up ready to work! Enjoy!
