Wyoming Wildlife

Big Horn Sheep
Big Horn Sheep Triplets. Okay, so I know that there is a really good chance that all three of these lambs do not belong to this ewe, but they sure acted like she was their one and only mommy. They followed her everywhere and never left her side! She was very protective and did not let them get too close to the yearling bucks in the herd that kep pushing them around! Enjoy!
Big Horn Sheep
Herd of Big Horn Sheep. We ran across this herd of Big Horn Sheep at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The band consisted of ewes, lambs and yearlings. They were awesome to watch! Enjoy!
Prairie Dog
Squeaky Dog. This little squeaky dog had babies in her burrow outside our rented cabin at Freemont Lake in Pinedale Wyoming. You could hear the little babies whining when she came out of the hole. She never came too close to me, but sat and grazed on the grass on a cold and rainy day while I sat and enjoyed her company. Enjoy!
Cedar Wax Wing
Cedar Wax Wing. I am not usually much of a bird watcher, but I had to take a look and photograph this little darling. About 200 of these birds landed in my yard and made so much noise it was hard to ignore them. It seems they travel in flocks and eat the berries off the bushes. Enjoy!
Bull Elk
Baby Bulls. These two young Bull Elk are friends right now; but wait a year or so and they will be adversaries! They look so innocent watching me watch them, and yet their bodies are already large and muscled and they can be very unpredictable. They will get bigger yet! Enjoy!
Mule Deer
Dark Eared Mule Deer - This doe watched every move I made! She was so alert and intent, she stomped her feet at me and made strange deer noises! Pretty intimidating! Enjoy
Mule Deer
Mule Deer with Notched Ear - This beautiful little doe has a notch on the outside of her left ear giving her a different appearance. She watched me photograph her and never even twitched. Enjoy!
Bull Elk
Big Bull Little Bull - Watching these bull Elk muscle each other around was an awesome sight! Even though the one bull was quite a bit smaller, they still pushed each other back and forth for about 35 minutes. Enjoy!
Bull Elk
Boys will be Boys - While watching this herd of bull Elk, many of them were just pushing around and trying to test their strength on each other. What a sight! Enjoy!
Cow Moose
Cow Moose with Cattle - This is the perfect example of Wyoming ranchers providing for both their livestock and wildlife. Habitat and preserving the land work hand in hand. This young cow moose makes the most of the cows pasture and company. Enjoy!
Running Buffalo
Running Buffalo - While watching these Buffalo cavort and play, I saw that they lived life with abandon and joy, young ones running along with no care as to who was watching them. Enjoy!
Buffalo Calf
Calf Buffalo - When I watched these Buffalo walking along I thought of how cute the calve was, but then I focused on the mother and wondered how could she have that much hair fall out and not be bald! Enjoy!
Buffalo and Elk
Buffalo and Elk Water Crossing - In Wyoming you come across beautiful scenes all the time, sometimes we are able to catch a peaceful moment like these Buffalo and Elk cohabitating and crossing along the same lazy river. Enjoy!
Bull Elk
Three Bull Elk in Velvet - Driving in Wyoming we came upon three Bull Elk grazing quietly in a pasture. Velvet covered all of their antlers and we marveled at how majestic they looked even when eating. Enjoy!
Big Horn Sheep Lamb
Big Horn Sheep Lamb. This Big Horn Sheep lamb was so cute! It wandered through the herd, bunting and jumping around while all the older sheep grazed! I could have watched for hours! Enjoy!
Big Horn Sheep Ewes
Big Horn Sheep Ewes. These Big Horn Sheep ewes were walking and eating as fast as their mouths and feet would go. They never looked up and they never deviated from the path. Enjoy!
Antelope Buck
Antelope Buck. We came across this buck Antelope and he just stood still which is really unusual for an Antelope. Usually they run as soon as you get anywhere near them. He was about a hundred yards out just grazing new spring grass and watching me. His hide was covered with large black patches with no hair and he lookied horrible, but his face was beautiful. Enjoy!
Bull Elk
Bulls Keeping a Wary Eye - These majestic bull Elk had gotten into the cattle pasture. They kept a very close eye on all the activity in the field. Enjoy!
Owl
Bright Eyes - This little fellow was ever so curious about us - about as curious as we were about him! We had a hard time capturing him with his head straight forward, but when we did it was really a sight! Enjoy!
Fox
What a Big Tail You Have - This fox had the biggest tail I have ever seen! I wouldn't have even noticed him without it, being bigger than he is. Standing in the field hunting mice and voles, he took a break and looked up to watch us! Enjoy!
Bull Elk
Bull Elk Twin Brothers - We watched these two Bull Elk from far far away, and as the time went by they came close enough for us to capture them on film. Enjoy!
Rabbit
Rabbit in Sunlight - As I was walking through the pasture one early morning in Wyoming, this little Rabbit stood so still that I could see the blood veins running through its ears from the sunlight. I focused my camera, expecting the bunny to run away before I could snap a picture; but he surprised me and remained still even after I walked away.
Porcupine
Porcupine in Pine - One day we came upon this little porcupine whittling away on a pine tree. Until then, I had been unaware that they gnawed on trees like beaver. I was worried that the dog was going to get a nose full of quills but the porcupine just watched us without much interest. Enjoy!
Bull Moose
This young Bull Moose only had one horn paddle on the right side; the left side was very small and deformed. I think he was still beautiful! Enjoy!
Fox
This sneaky little vixen Fox thought I couldn't see her and just hugged the ground waiting for me to go away. Enjoy!
I ran into a whole covey of sage chickens one afternoon and all but one flew away; this bird walked away calmly and never got excited that all the rest of his family had flown away! Enjoy!
